Vainglory

Vainglory

In one of Aesop's fables the fox used flattering words to deceive the crow who had in her beak a piece of cheese that she had successfully snatched. In order to get hold of the cheese, the fox said to the crow: "Oh if only your voice were equal to your beauty, you would deserve to be called the queen of birds!" At this the crow opened her beak to surprise the fox with her caw. The cheese naturally dropped, the fox promptly picked it up and left the crow to carry on with her showing off.

  • Who knows how many merits we miss due to unworthy praise and vainglory!
